Lesson 8 - Dialogue : Projets de voyage (Plans for a trip)

M. Martin rencontre M. Delorme dans la rue. Tous deux parlent du prochain voyage de la famille Delorme aux Etats-Unis. Mr. Martin meets Mr. Delorme on the street. They both talk about the Delorme family's coming trip to the United States.
M. Martin: On m'a dit que vous partiez pour les Etats-Unis. Est-ce vrai? I heard that you were leaving for the United States. Is that true?
M. Delorme: Oui, nous comptons partir dans deux mois. Yes, we plan to leave in two months.
M. Martin: Avez-vous terminé vos préparatifs? Have you made all your arrangements?
M. Delorme: Pas encore. il y en a tellement que je me demande si nous serons prêts à temps. Not yet. There are so many that I wonder if we’ll be ready in time.
M. Martin: C'est vraiment si compliqué que ça? It's really that complicated?
M. Delorme: Oui, il faut que nous obtenions des papiers de toutes sortes. Nous devons aussi nous faire vacciner et passer une visite médicale. Yes, we have to get all sorts of documents. We also have to get vaccinated and have medical examinations.
M. Martin: Est-ce que vous avez retenu vos places sur le bateau? Have you made your reservations on the boat?
M. Delorme: Non, car il vaut mieux que nous ayons les visas d'abord, c'est plus prudent. No, because it's better to get our visas first. It's safer.
M. Martin: Où irez-vous? Where will you go?
M. Delorme: A New York, cela va de soi, puis à Détroit où je voudrais visiter une usine d'automobiles. To New York, that goes without saying, then to Detroit where I'd like to visit an automobile factory.
M. Martin: Est-ce que vous verrez les Dupré? Will you see the Duprés?
M. Delorme: Oui. Ils nous ont invités à passer quelques temps chez eux à la Nouvelle-Orléans. Yes. They have invited us to spend some time at their place in New Orleans.
M. Martin: Ferez-vous tout le voyage par le train? Will you make the whole trip by train?
M. Delorme: Non, nous comptons louer une voiture en arrivant et nous irons peut-être jusqu'à San Francisco. No, we plan to rent a car when we arrive and we’ll go perhaps as far as San Francisco.
M. Martin: C'est une très belle ville. Je suis sûr que vous l'aimerez. That's a beautiful city. I'm sure you'll like it.
M. Delorme: La connaissez-vous? Do you know it?
M. Martin: Oui, j'y ai fait une partie de mes études et je m'y suis beaucoup plu. Yes, I did part of my studying there and I liked it very much.
M. Delorme: Alors, vous devez parler parfaitement l'anglais. C'est dommage que vous ne puissiez pas nous servir d'interprète. Then you must speak English perfectly. It’ too bad that you can't be an interpreter for us.
M. Martin: Ce serait avec grand plaisir, d'autant plus que j'aimerais bien retourner aux Etats-Unis. Je m'excuse, mais il faut que je vous quitte. It would be a pleasure especially since I'd love to go back to the United States. Excuse me but I have to leave you.
M. Delorme: Je me dépêche aussi car je dois aller à la Préfecture. Il faut que je fasse renouveler nos passeports. I’m in hurry too since I have to go to the Prefecture. I have to have our passports renewed.
M. Martin: Je vous souhaite un bon voyage. I wish you a nice trip.
