Lesson 1 - Dialogue : Au bureau de placement (At the employment agency)

Une dame va au bureau de placement pour trouver une bonne. Elle y est reçue par la gérante. A woman goes to the employment agency to find a maid. She is received by the manager.
La dame: Je voudrais une bonne aimant s'occuper d'enfants. I’d like a maid who likes to take care of children.
La gérante: Est-ce pour Paris ou pour la banlieue? Is it for Paris or for the suburbs?
La dame: Neuilly exactement. Neuilly exactly.
La gérante: Je crois que j'ai une personne qui fera votre affaire. I think I have someone who will be suitable for you.
La dame: Comment s'appelle-t-elle? What's her name?
La gérante: Elle s'appelle Marie Ledoux. Si vous voulez attendre une minute, je l'envoie chercher. Her name is Marie Ledoux. If you want to wait a minute, I'll send for her.
(La bonne arrive) (The maid comes in)
La dame: J'ai trois enfants dont deux vont à l'école. Mais pour le gros travail j'ai déjà quelqu'un. Où avez-vous travaillé jusqu'à maintenant? I have three children, two of whom go to school. But for the heavy work, I already have someone. Where have you worked until now?
La bonne: Je suis au service du Colonel Lavigne depuis deux ans. Malheureusement, il part pour l'étranger avec sa famille. I've worked for Colonel Lavigne for two years. Unfortunately, he's going abroad with his family.
La dame: Combien gagnez-vous? How much do you earn?

La bonne: J'étais chez un diplomate brésilien qui avait quatre enfants. I was in the home of a Brazilian diplomat who had four children.
La dame: Est-il toujours à Paris? Is he still in Paris?
La bonne: Non, il a été nommé à Londres il y a un peu plus de deux ans. No, he was assigned to London a little more than two years ago.

La bonne: Non, je préférerais commencer lundi. Je vais passer quelques jours chez ma mère, et serai de retour dimanche. No, I'd prefer to start Monday. I'm going to spend a few days at my mother's and will be back Sunday.
La dame: Alors, je ferai préparer votre chambre pour ce jour-là. Then I'll have your room made ready for that day.
